CPR in Schools Training Kit™ Program

Dear Parent or Guardian,

CPR Schools : I am writing to tell you about an exciting program that your child recently participated in at school.
As you may know, our school trains students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before they
graduate. Recently, your child learned the lifesaving skills of CPR in class. He or she may have also
learned how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and how to provide relief to someone
who is choking. The training was simple and took less than one class period to complete.

You may be wondering why CPR training is such an important program for us. Did you know that
about 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home? If you suffer a cardiac arrest, receiving
immediate bystander CPR, likely from a family member or friend, is your best chance of survival. We
realize that people who are trained to perform CPR will be more likely to administer aid.

As parents and guardians, we encourage you to discuss this program at home with your child and ask
questions about CPR. One of our most important goals is to extend this opportunity into the community.
Please visit heart.org/handsonlycpr to view one of our many training videos. We encourage you
to invite family members and friends over to participate in the training that your child will be excited
to share. Together, we can increase the number of bystanders who are prepared to act confidently
in an emergency.

Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any additional questions about our CPR in Schools program
