The Broken Arrow couple had gone to Porter July 16 to see if a giant peach cobbler made by community volunteers would earn a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Smiths were waiting with thousands of festival goers near the outdoor oven when Donna experienced an episode.
“We were waiting for the cobbler to come out and I didn’t get to see it,” she explained. “I guess it was the heat. I sat down, then laid down. The next thing I remembered is someone asked if I knew they had done CPR on me.”
“I want to thank the nurse who administered CPR to me and offer a big thank you to all the paramedics who assisted to my needs. God bless you all!” Donna continued.
Mrs. Smith was airlifted to an area hospital where she required an overnight stay.
Don said they are hoping to learn the identity of the mystery festival patron.
“The only thing I noticed is she had purple in her hair,” he said with a smile. “I’m glad she was there and knew what to do.”
“With all those thousands of people who were there, who knows where she was from? She could be from anywhere! If she is in the area and sees this in the paper, she will know,” Donna said. “She could have possibly saved my life.”
“It would be nice to see her and give her a big hug,” Donna said.
