NYPD officers perform life-saving CPR on 1-year-old girl

Two New York City police officers are being credited with saving a 1-year-old child’s life after hearing the cries of her mother who was running down the street. NYPD officers Felix Baez and Giovanni Laguna were in the Bronx when they saw a frantic Lilina Benigno, The New York Post reported.

“She was running down 138th street and yelling ‘Ayudame!’” Baez told the newspaper. “Ayudame” means “help” when translated from Spanish.

“I applied my training,” he told The Post. “I kept working on her. It was natural for me, and the most important thing for me was to stay calm.”

  • They then transported both Benigo and Dolores to Lincoln Hospital where the child was listed in stable condition, The Post reported.

“It feels great. I feel a great satisfaction knowing that the mother and daughter can have another day together,” Baez told the newspaper.

The baby, identified in the report as Ashley Dolores, had a weak pulse and was turning blue. Laguna performed CPR and relied on training tactics to stay calm.CPR Augusta GA.

Police Officers Felix Baez and Giovanni Laguna were patrolling near 138 Street and Willis Avenue Friday night when they observed a young woman holding a baby and running down the block asking for help in Spanish by yelling, “ayudame!” The plain clothes officers stopped their car and identified themselves when they observed the woman’s unresponsive baby turning blue in her arms.
Officer Laguna immediately placed the baby on the ground and began CPR while his partner radioed for an ambulance. Officer Laguna continued CPR for approximately one minute when he noticed the baby’s eyes open and he felt a faint pulse. The officers then transported the ailing toddler and her mother to Lincoln Hospital in the back of their unmarked police car. Officer Laguna continued performing chest compressions in the car while Officer Baez maintained communication with the radio dispatcher. Additional officers from the 40th Precinct and Police Service Area 7 expedited the trip to the hospital by stopping traffic at various intersections. The baby is in stable condition at Lincoln Hospital where she is still being treated.
